Meet Amanda Richardson

Amanda Richardson is the Vice President of Apprenticeship Carolina. She joined Apprenticeship Carolina as an Apprenticeship Consultant in February 2016 and worked in that role until May 2019, when Apprenticeship Carolina became its own division within the SC Technical College System. Amanda then transitioned to the role of Senior Workforce and Special Projects Manager in the Division of Economic Development before accepting her current position at Apprenticeship Carolina in June 2023.

Prior to joining Apprenticeship Carolina, Amanda worked at Piedmont Technical College, where she served as the Director of Dual Enrollment and the Associate Dean of the County Campuses.

Originally from Newberry, SC, Amanda attended Newberry College and Clemson University, taking transient classes at Piedmont Technical College during the summers. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Clemson University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Southern Wesleyan University. Additionally, she completed the Community College Leadership Alliance (CCLA) Graduate Certificate Program through the University of South Carolina.

In her spare time, Amanda enjoys spending time with her family—her husband, Slade; son, Levi; daughter, Jaina; and their family dog, Penny. She is constantly on the go, balancing her children’s extracurricular activities—including dance, archery, baseball, and dirt bike racing—and enjoying family time at the lake during the summer.

What three words would you use to describe yourself?

Dedicated, Respectful, and Personable

What drew you to apprenticeship?

I believe in the value of apprenticeships and understand how they benefit both the employers and the citizens of South Carolina. I appreciate being a part of creating and expanding these opportunities across the state to address critical workforce challenges.

What is something that you enjoy or appreciate the most about your job?

I enjoy getting to see the success stories of apprentices who have changed their trajectory by participating in and completing an apprenticeship program. I enjoy getting to hear employers talk about how their registered apprenticeship program(s) have created a pipeline of talent for their organization. And I greatly appreciate the support of the SC Technical College System Leadership and all of the amazing people that I have the opportunity to work with every day across our Division, the System Office, and the System as a whole.
